5 Ways to Happiness

#1. Don’t worry about what others think of you:

I’m going to start with one of the most important ways to find happiness; quit worrying about what others think of you. I will never forget the moment I read this sentence in one of my favorite books by Jen Sincero called You are a Badass, “What other people think of you is none of your business.”

It was as if I had an epiphany when I read it. Oh-my-goodness did this sentence stick with me. This is YOUR life. Do what you want to do and don’t let other people’s opinion of you keep you from following your dreams. The ones who are saying negative things are usually the ones with the most insecurities. Once you stop worrying what they think are start focusing on you the possibilities are endless.

#2. Work on your fitness:

I know this sounds cliché but it’s the truth. As most of you know, when you workout you release endorphins to the brain which are known as happy hormones. Exercising important to help us maintain a healthy weight, keep us looking and feeling young and can lower the risk of some diseases.

Find out what type of exercise you enjoy doing. Do you enjoy using weights, running, walking, dancing, yoga, sports, etc.? Then incorporate what you enjoy doing into your daily or weekly routine. Don’t be afraid to try something new. You never know what new workouts you might really like.

#3. Sleep:

Sleeping is one of the best things you can do for your body. We repair while we are asleep but without the correct amount it can actually be harmful to our bodies. During sleep our heart and blood vessels start to heal keeping us healthier. According to the National Institute of Health, ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.

Yes- I understand that many of us have busy lives and you do not always get the amount of sleep needed. It is extremely important to start making sleep a priority. You will feel more energized, have less health problems, and the list goes on. Sweet dreams!

#4. Don’t sweat the small stuff:

Seriously-stress is horrible on your body. We tend to use most of our energy on the bad instead of the good. Constantly thinking about what we did wrong or what we messed up instead of what we did right or what we learned that day. We are only here for a short amount of time and it is so important learn from your mistakes and move on. Learn to let s*** go.

Is anyone going to remember this in 3 months or 6 months? This is something I say to myself on the regular. Most of the time your answer is going to be NO. Because honestly, its not a big deal. Not to say that your mistakes aren’t important but they’re just more important to YOU then to someone else. Move on, learn, grow and figure out how to not sweat the small stuff and it will be life changing.

#5. Be grateful.

Gratitude is the best medicine. It promotes positive energy all around us. There is so much going on in the world which is why gratitude is so imperative. Write down all the things you are grateful for, say hi to a stranger, hold the door for someone. These are just a few examples of ways to show your gratitude. Be thankful for the clothes on your back, the food on your table, the water you drink and whatever else you can think of. We really are so lucky to have the things we have. Spread the love and remember to always be nice to everyone you meet. You never know what they are going through and how much a simple smile can make someone’s day.
